Author Guidelines

New Submission

Whether solicited or contributed, manuscripts must be submitted to the Indonesian Journal of Applied Linguistics and Language Innovation through the journal's online submission system. Registration is required before submitting a new manuscript (please click here to register and ensure you designate yourself as an "Author"). Subsequently, you may select the "New Submission" tab on your User Home.

Please click here to log in if you already possess an account. You have probably created an account if you have previously reviewed or authored for the Journal. Input the required information and respond to the questions as instructed on the submission page. Select the “Next” button on each screen to save your progress and proceed to the subsequent screen. Include the names and contact information of a minimum of four internationally recognized experts who can review your manuscript in the "Comments for the Editor" section.

Please upload your files as prompted. Select the “Browse” button to find the file on your computer. Choose the file description from the drop-down menu adjacent to the Browse button. After selecting all desired files for upload, click the “Upload” button. Please review your submission before sending it to the Editors. Press the “Submit” button upon completion of your review. The authors are responsible for ensuring that all files have been uploaded accurately.

It is permissible to halt a submission at any stage and retain it for future submission. The corresponding author will receive an acknowledgment of receipt for the manuscript submitted to the Indonesian Journal of Applied Linguistics and Language Innovation Online Submission System. This acknowledgment will include an assigned manuscript number, which must be referenced in all future correspondence. Access the submission web page of the Indonesian Journal of Applied Linguistics and Language Innovation at any time to verify the status of your manuscript. An email will be sent to you upon the decision regarding your manuscript.

Every manuscript must include a declaration confirming that it has not been previously published and that it is not under simultaneous consideration for publication elsewhere. Manuscripts may be prepared in Microsoft Word (.docx) format. The recommended format for initial submissions, solely for review purposes, is Portable Document Format (.pdf). Upon acceptance, the manuscripts must be formatted using the Microsoft Word (.docx) template available at the following link: Indonesian Journal of Applied Linguistics and Language Innovation Template (.tex)

The provided link directs users to the Overleaf interface, where they can download the journal's Microsoft Word (.docx) template via the Menu link located in the upper left corner. Subsequent modifications can be made easily.

Revised Manuscripts

Revised manuscripts must be submitted through the Indonesian Journal of Applied Linguistics and Language Innovation online journal system to confirm their association with the initial submission. The revision must commence with a detailed, point-by-point elucidation addressing the precise inquiries asked by the referees and the appropriate modifications implemented in the new edition.

To submit your amended manuscript, please navigate to your author page and select the corresponding manuscript title. Access the "Review" link at the top left and scroll downward on the page. Select the "Choose File" button beneath the "Editor Decision" heading, select the amended manuscript (in PDF format) for submission, and then click the "Upload" button to submit the author version. Ensure the uploaded file commences with your reply to the reviewer(s)' remarks. CRUCIAL: A PDF document must be uploaded to the system, containing (i) your responses to the reviewers' comments and (ii) the updated manuscript with highlighted changes. Any deviation may lead to the rejection of your manuscript.

When submitting amended manuscripts, the authors must also upload the source files (Microsoft Word (.docx)) to prevent delays in making the manuscript publicly accessible online. Files may be compressed if required.

CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) Authors Statements

CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) is introduced to recognize individual author contributions, reduce authorship disputes, and facilitate collaboration. CRediT allows authors to share an accurate and detailed description of their diverse contributions to the published work.

The corresponding author ensures that all authors' descriptions are accurate and agreed upon. All authors' roles should be listed using the relevant categories above. Authors may have contributed in multiple roles. CRediT in no way changes the journal’s criteria to qualify for authorship. CRediT statements should be provided during the submission process and will appear above the acknowledgment section of the published manuscript, as shown below.

Possible CRediT statements:

Conceptualization, Methodology, Software, Validation, Formal Analysis, Investigation, Resources, Data Curation, Writing - Original Draft, Writing - Review & Editing, Visualization, Supervision, Project Administration, Funding Acquisition.

Sample CRediT author statement:

First Author: Conceptualization, Methodology, Software. Second Author: Data curation, Writing-Original draft preparation. Third Author: Visualization, Investigation. Fourth Author: Supervision. Fifth Author: Software, Validation, Writing- Reviewing and Editing. All authors discussed the results and contributed to the final manuscript.

English Editing

Manuscripts must be in English. British and American spellings are permissible, and usage remains consistent throughout the work. According to the Editor's assessment, manuscripts deemed unclear or incomprehensible in English will be returned to the authors with a request for resubmission after rectifying the language difficulties. This guideline does not suggest that all manuscripts must be composed in "flawless" English, whatever is defined. The standards stipulate that the authors' intended meaning must be clearly comprehensible, free from linguistic issues, to the referees who have consented to assess the manuscript.

Presentation of Manuscripts

Manuscript Style

Consider a standard font in 11-point size, with a preference for Times New Roman. Your manuscript must be single-spaced. It should not exceed 30 single-spaced pages, encompassing text, tables, figures, and a bibliography. All graphics, figures, and tables are positioned within the text at suitable locations rather than at the conclusion. These settings are the default on the Microsoft Word (.docx).

When submitting the manuscript, the following items must be written on OJS.

  • The full title of the manuscript.
  • Names and affiliations of all authors,
  • All authors' full addresses, including emails, telephone, or fax.
  • Include the name(s) of any sponsor(s) of the research contained in the manuscript, along with grant number(s).
  • Enter an abstract of no more than 300 words for all manuscripts.
  • Keywords: Authors should prepare 3 to 5 keywords for their manuscript.

Abstract

An abstract summarizes the entire manuscript, encompassing more than merely the findings. The abstract must not exceed 250 words and should communicate the following:

  • A preface to the undertaking. This should be comprehensible to scientists across all disciplines and convey the investigations' importance.
  • Certain scientific particulars pertaining to the context of the issue.
  • A synopsis of the principal outcome.
  • The impact of the outcome.
  • A comprehensive perspective on the results, once more comprehensible across scientific disciplines.

The abstract must effectively communicate the significance of the work and remain comprehensible to a multidisciplinary readership without referencing the remainder of the publication. Abstracts must exclude any references to previously published works.

Page proofs are sent to the designated author using the Indonesian Journal of Applied Linguistics and Language Innovation online submission system. They must be carefully checked and returned within 48 hours of receipt.

Offprints / Reprints

The corresponding author will be notified that their manuscript has been published and made available online in PDF format. The authors can download their manuscript free of charge and use it, considering the rights expressed in the Copyright Notice.

Author Roles and Responsibilities

When determining the credit for a work, authors should ensure that all those who have contributed are cited as co-authors. Other individuals who have contributed to the study in a lesser capacity should be acknowledged but not cited as authors. The author has made a significant intellectual contribution to the manuscript. This can include, but is not limited to:

  • Background theory
  • Design of experiment
  • Device prototype
  • Data analysis and interpretation
  • Writing of the manuscript or reviewing and/or revising the text and/or figures

We strongly encourage authors to make specific attributions of contribution and responsibility in the manuscript's acknowledgments. Otherwise, all co-authors will be taken to share full responsibility for the entire manuscript. Authors may wish to use a taxonomy such as CRediT to describe the contributions of each author.

Authors are expected to agree on authorship and the order in which author names are presented. If the agreement between the authors cannot be reached, the institution(s) where the work was undertaken should be asked to investigate. Indonesian Journal of Applied Linguistics and Language Innovation will not arbitrate in cases of disagreement over authorship. Indonesian Journal of Applied Linguistics and Language Innovation has the right to remove your manuscript from the review process until a resolution can be agreed.

Authors should not use authorship or acknowledgments misleadingly to imply a contribution or endorsement by individuals not involved with the work or given an endorsement.

Responsibility of the corresponding author

The corresponding authors ensure that all named authors have approved the submitted version of the manuscript and all further revisions, agree to its submission, and are willing to take appropriate responsibility for it.

All authors must approve the manuscript's final version as accepted for publication.

It is the corresponding author’s responsibility to ensure the manuscript is not under consideration by any other journal at the time of submission.

It is the corresponding author’s responsibility to ensure the contact details for all co-authors are entered and correct at the time of submission.

Changes in authorship

All authors must approve any changes to authorship during the manuscript's publication process, and all authors must confirm to the journal that they gave their consent and made a genuine intellectual contribution to the manuscript. All authors must fill in the "Gammarisepub author changes form" and sign it in this context. In addition, you must explain to the journal the reasons behind the change in authorship based on the guidelines above. Indonesian Journal of Applied Linguistics and Language Innovation reserves the right to refuse requests if there is reason to doubt the contribution of any newly added author.

Deceased authors

In cases where an author has sadly passed away before a manuscript has been submitted, we require consent from a familial or legal proxy of the deceased for the manuscript to be reviewed for potential publication. Deceased authors are still eligible for co-authorship if they made a significant intellectual contribution to the manuscript (see above).
